bats

One night bats flew in through the windows of my house. They swilled all around me and crawled all over my skin and clung to my clothing. I stood up from my chair where I had been sitting and smoking a cigarette and stretched out full. I made myself tall to stretch out my spine and then let my body lull down so that my knees were slightly bent and my palms were touching the floor, then I slowly stood back up so that I could feel each vertebrae of my spine unfurling. The bats draped all about me began to fall asleep, and so did I.

Brand New World

They have invented it my brothers, a machine, what a machine, it will change everything, it has already changed so much... They are calling it the machine of new possibility, they are calling it the infinite probability machine, never more need you worry that for you there is no future, this machine will make futures for us all, it will make every man new, newly reborn, borne into a new future, farflung from the obscure mundane, modernity, so woefully inadequate. My brothers this machine will destroy all destitude, it will rid us each and all of hunger and of pain, my brothers you must not hesitate, for you, are the free. Free to forever be free, you have only to let go, of foolish sentimentality, for that is the price of freedom, the machine my brothers, will erase your past.

Tanks!

Tanks have parked in my garden. I first saw them three weeks ago, driving down my road in a great long line. I watched as they drove down to the bottom of the road and then round the corner and out of the view of my window, then about 10 minutes later they would be driving back down from the top of the road. I think they were the same tanks each time, it was hard to tell as they had no license plates but they certainly looked the same, and of course for them to have been different tanks would have meant there were literally hundreds, no, thousands! Imagine!

I digress... the important thing is that now they aren't circling any more, they are just sat there all around my little house with their great cannons pointed at me. I'm starting to worry.

Locket

I don't know why we broke the chains that held the lockets around our necks, nor do I know why we broke the clasp that held the two doors together, yours to mine. We are still locked you and I, together, not by objects but by time. I know now, that no matter what of you I burn, the memory of it will burn brighter still, in the dark shadows of my mind.

Bright moon

This one time the moon shone in the sky so brightly that it kept all of the animals up, except of course for those that came out when it was dark.
The day animals ran around and preened and ate each other. The night animals slept and were eaten. After a few days and brightly lit nights the day animals became tired and the night animals all ran out of good dreams, they stopped going back to sleep to see how they would end.
The day animals found shady trees and napped, the night animals squinted their beady eyes and braved the light. After a few more days the squinting night animals had become almost completely accustomed to the light but they were tired and the day animals were too becoming so very bored with their dreams.
All of these drowsy and frustrated animals held a summit, and decided something had to be done about this bright and tyrannical moon.
They decided to ask it not to be so bright, but they realized that the moon was so very, very far away. So they called for all of the trumpeting animals to blow their mighty noses and all of the squawkers to squawk, the talkers too were to talk.
A mighty furore was made by this multitude of most musical animals.
The moon sighed and replied... "i'm sorry that things are such a mess but it is really the suns fault..."

Existentialist crisis.

Once a man led another deep into a dark cave, as they walked further into the darkness the light did not follow them, thus they moved into complete darkness. The first man said to the second whom he was leading "Now you are not following me and I am leading you nowhere, now we are nowhere and we are nothing". The second man laughed at the first, because, well, because he was wrong.
